Victoria and her brother Colt have known Jace since he moved in next door at 6 years old. Colt and Jace were best friends while Tori, the oldest of the trio, tagged along to keep her brother out of trouble. The summer before senior year Jace and Tori give in to their feelings. Within just a few months their love and friendships are shattered by a series of unfortunate and heartbreaking events. After a ten year separation Tori and Jace come face to face and it is not a happy reunion.

These characters did not have easy lives. Tori and Colt with their non-present mother and the paternity scandal. Jace with both his parents bailing on him and his dad just wanting to mooch off whoever he can. It was a lot for high schoolers to be dealing with. Then after Tori’s recent traumatic experience to be dealing with grumpy Jace. Sheesh.

Tori is a very strong person. Addiction is such a horrible disease. A lot of people don’t realize how easy it is to develop a habit after getting a prescription just like Tori. That was such a real representation. Jace starts out locked down but he grows emotionally available and mature throughout the book. I loved their chemistry. The amount of angst was just right for me.
